(a toast for you and your friends)

May we lift our cups to all those unable
And toast to those who can’t bless our table
Cheers to here-and-now, and all within view
I drink in delight of sharing this with you

Here are the blogs I got listed:

when i drink, i rarely taste
the detail of discerning
falls first
to indulged tips
of lips
and other things

when i taste, i will then devour
the distance
of learning
fills fast my mind,
sure as I breathe…
I will always crave

The Poetry of Politics February 7, 2008

While that phrase sounds odd, and while everyone has probably seen the will.i.am tribute to Obama’s Yes We Can speech, I still feel the need to mention it. Besides will.i.am, I have counted a dozen or so others online that have already chimed in with their own lyrical “Yes We Can”.

The combination of what has to be some damn good writers, Obama’s undeniable charisma, and a willingness by his campaign to break the mold and not be afraid to inspire people for the sake of inspiration, for the sake of hope – has all combined to create some of the most impactful political speeches since Reagan, since JFK, since King. Whether you agree with his politics or would ever consider voting for him, you have to admit, he inspires.

Lyrics

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation. (more…)

purpose full we wander December 16, 2007

Purpose full
We wander
Unsure of destinations
Only that we must
Advance

Purpose full
We argue
Unsure of motivation
Only that we must
Combat

Purpose full
We consume
Unsure of integration
Only that we must
Ingest

Purpose full
We produce
Unsure of gestation
Only that we must
Breed

Purpose full
We love
Unsure of temptation
Only that we must
Trust

steadily her sickness drips
pooling pain and soreness
sore from true injury, and sore from no rest, but mostly sore from absence

steadily her sickness pools
reflecting dull empty eyes
empty from drought, a lacking of love, yet overflowing with passionless blood

steadily her vision drains
evaporating old sunken pains
lifting her spirit, her sight surely spies, a hand reaching out to the depleted

steadily her sickness wains
receeding as spent tides
abiding, her hand, hope to this lost man, drowning out soon distant cries

i sit in newness December 9, 2007

i sit in newness,
cluttered with my old,
piles of unwanted,
uncontrollably defined by what i own.
I know this is one of the reasons I love my writing. It can’t be held or sold, or bought, and although it can age, it cannot die.
i sit in newness, piled with possessions,
some soon to be trash, others soon to sit in neater stacks.
I sit in newness, at one with my ideas.
Its stunning how much a bare wall can define you.
How the lack of art or music, or comfortable shoes, can make a healthy, whole person feel incomplete. My religous friends would tell me I need to be at peace with God, then I will feel complete. But I tend to find the same stacks of possessions in their homes too.
Good or bad,
I sit in newness, comfortable with the feeling,
ready to get rid of many old things, knowing that they will soon be replaced with new ones.
I sit in newness, excited to fill the space, surrounded by old things, at peace with what is important. I know what is needed, I know what needs to be new. I sit in newness, because it pushes me and my thoughts to continue.

Hammers Slam Softly November 5, 2007

Hammers slam softly
On pins placed with care.
Powder pulls combustion
From unsuspecting air.

Casings spin silent
Spiral past peace.
While mouths water willingly,
As fools flock to feast.

Barrels so brazen,
Move mothers to mourn,
Filling briefly with anger,
Releasing short storms.

Death tolls tally flesh,
And ripped open chests,
As hammers slam softly,
Without much regret.

evilthick melting sky October 2, 2007

the sky dripped devilpure,
the heavens bled out bile
the natives rose from a resting pose,
jesting,
pleasure smiles,
to fill wide eyes
with a staggering rise
of black, unflinching sky.

blankets of inky heights
sat.
thin as floating kites,
blending oil and dye.
wet.
with a darkness of some weight,
heavy as still slate.

two gods knelt. tender.
over gentle earth. surrendered.
rage swept swift, open sky ripped.
Horror echoed off splendor.

daylight doused the heavens’ edge
as dark blight stole all light,
lovers devour, mortal mates spread
rendered beneath soft night.

an evilthick melting sky
sat above unsure beasts
twobacked soles
filling empty holes
as hell fell from the east
