Like a million blades of sunshine
Waiting to pierce the night
And banish silence from this place

Waiting is our permanent,
the state in which we feel secure.
We sit,
we spy,
we neatly stay.

Thankfully, there’s a simple cure.

I really wanted to crawl into bed with you last night and make you smile.

And give me pleasure…

Very much so.

And brush your lips against mine ever so slightly…

Lips to lips.
And tongues. And chests. And legs. And hips. And breath.
And moans. And whispers. And pleases. And yeses. And pasts. And futures.
And rest…

May we lift our cups to all those unable
And toast to those who can’t bless our table
Cheers to here-and-now, and all within view
I drink in delight of sharing this with you

I am waiting for a glimmer of who I thought I was.
The single most motivating charade
On my horizon is a hope,
Hope that the person I think I can be, will be.
That the fantasy of my future self
Will one day be my reality, my present.
Tomorrow, today.
My flaws, my past.
My accomplishments, legend.
My happiness, constant.
But then I realize that mistakes are necessity.
That constant happiness muddles peaks and valleys,
until everything is flat.
Flat is not life, flat is death,
The absence of energy,
The absence of spirit,
Ignorance of free will.
Constant happiness makes for no happiness.
Indulge the valleys for they are followed by peaks,
Indulge hatred for it encourages love,
Embrace flaws and mistakes,
But never stop striving for more,
Embrace, but do not settle.
Indulge, but do not surrender.
Strive for what is right,
Allow for setbacks,
And then rise above.

I was waiting for a glimmer of who I thought I was
Until,
I found I was always right here,
Falling, rising, trying, living.
My hope is in the present.
I am my future self.

when i drink, i rarely taste
the detail of discerning
falls first
to indulged tips

when i taste, i will then devour
the distance
of learning
fills fast my mind,
sure as I breathe…
I will always crave

theres a note in my head, a humming, a salutation of simple swaying
a coat on my body, warm and laying heavy to my sides
it hides dull pains, some in my body, some in my spirit
its only heavy when it rains, and sometimes I take it off, on dry days

The Poetry of Politics February 7, 2008

While that phrase sounds odd, and while everyone has probably seen the will.i.am tribute to Obama’s Yes We Can speech, I still feel the need to mention it. Besides will.i.am, I have counted a dozen or so others online that have already chimed in with their own lyrical “Yes We Can”.

The combination of what has to be some damn good writers, Obama’s undeniable charisma, and a willingness by his campaign to break the mold and not be afraid to inspire people for the sake of inspiration, for the sake of hope – has all combined to create some of the most impactful political speeches since Reagan, since JFK, since King. Whether you agree with his politics or would ever consider voting for him, you have to admit, he inspires.

Lyrics

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation. (more…)

Wooden planks of dust
Lean on floors of rust
Blanketing the ground

Nighttime bustle
Nighttime hustle
Until the child’s found

Tears dry to the taste
On a virgin face
Drip without a sound

A heavy home
A frozen womb
The cold keeps her now

She fled simple folly
This cold still Molly
A blanket for the ground

Nighttime bustle
Nighttime hustle
Until the child’s found

Sing to me sweet New Year, show your sultry ways.
I chime away your minutes, while you chime away my days.
Kiss me to your neighbor; show me simple joys,
For I’m in great need,
Of your good deeds,
Another night of Yule tide noise.

Purpose full
We wander
Unsure of destinations
Only that we must
Advance

Purpose full
We argue
Unsure of motivation
Only that we must
Combat

Purpose full
We consume
Unsure of integration
Only that we must
Ingest

Purpose full
We produce
Unsure of gestation
Only that we must
Breed

Purpose full
We love
Unsure of temptation
Only that we must
Trust

steadily her sickness drips
pooling pain and soreness
sore from true injury, and sore from no rest, but mostly sore from absence

steadily her sickness pools
reflecting dull empty eyes
empty from drought, a lacking of love, yet overflowing with passionless blood

steadily her vision drains
evaporating old sunken pains
lifting her spirit, her sight surely spies, a hand reaching out to the depleted

steadily her sickness wains
receeding as spent tides
abiding, her hand, hope to this lost man, drowning out soon distant cries

i sit in newness December 9, 2007

i sit in newness,
cluttered with my old,
piles of unwanted,
uncontrollably defined by what i own.
I know this is one of the reasons I love my writing. It can’t be held or sold, or bought, and although it can age, it cannot die.
i sit in newness, piled with possessions,
some soon to be trash, others soon to sit in neater stacks.
I sit in newness, at one with my ideas.
Its stunning how much a bare wall can define you.
How the lack of art or music, or comfortable shoes, can make a healthy, whole person feel incomplete. My religous friends would tell me I need to be at peace with God, then I will feel complete. But I tend to find the same stacks of possessions in their homes too.
Good or bad,
I sit in newness, comfortable with the feeling,
ready to get rid of many old things, knowing that they will soon be replaced with new ones.
I sit in newness, excited to fill the space, surrounded by old things, at peace with what is important. I know what is needed, I know what needs to be new. I sit in newness, because it pushes me and my thoughts to continue.

Go home baby sister, this boy will do you harm.
The rough edge of yesterday has yet to keep me warm,
My world, so worn.

I look for love. crave it, as human as I know.
But my path trails surely away from faith,
My world, so torn.

Go home baby sister, and see sadness slow.
Let those rough edges dim softly to a blur,
My world, so warm.

Strongroots crawl
As strangers to all
Melting into ground so limber

Fastfire fell
From a fracture in hell
Splitting pure oak into timber

Stillponds glowed
As melting moss flowed
Lumber into earth a cinder

Hammers Slam Softly November 5, 2007

Hammers slam softly
On pins placed with care.
Powder pulls combustion
From unsuspecting air.

Casings spin silent
Spiral past peace.
While mouths water willingly,
As fools flock to feast.

Barrels so brazen,
Move mothers to mourn,
Filling briefly with anger,
Releasing short storms.

Death tolls tally flesh,
And ripped open chests,
As hammers slam softly,
Without much regret.

Reach up towards threatening words and close them in your hand. Squeeze them tight, and let no light, reach such poetic sands. Let no grain of prose based pain, drip from grasp to ground. When true joy you find, a lover to bind; echoes of elation will sound.

The world is falling down
And love has lost his crown.

Kiss his ring,
Hear saints sing,
The world is falling down.

Look to the sky,
Hear crows cry,
For the world is falling down.

Sing sad songs,
Swallow your wrongs,
The crashing of the crown.

Beat the dirt,
Fix to the earth,
Embrace the fertile ground.

As the sky does fall,
No angels call,
And lovers’ won’t be found.

They’ll split in two,
As me and you,
And fade fast without sound.

the sky dripped devilpure,
the heavens bled out bile
the natives rose from a resting pose,
jesting,
pleasure smiles,
to fill wide eyes
with a staggering rise
of black, unflinching sky.

blankets of inky heights
sat.
thin as floating kites,
blending oil and dye.
wet.
with a darkness of some weight,
heavy as still slate.

two gods knelt. tender.
over gentle earth. surrendered.
rage swept swift, open sky ripped.
Horror echoed off splendor.

daylight doused the heavens’ edge
as dark blight stole all light,
lovers devour, mortal mates spread
rendered beneath soft night.

an evilthick melting sky
sat above unsure beasts
twobacked soles
filling empty holes
as hell fell from the east

Sunrises shatter on pure panes of pasture
Piercing the prairies of yore
While cities spread simply to force pockets empty
Fed by whores wanting more

Daytime does spatter while the twilight gets fatter
Filling itself with a roar
More of the same dead buffalo game
Hunting ‘til the land is clean tore

Mornings will fall for night swallows all
Kissing itself on the shore
Riders will come to watch us succumb
And our sight will spread ‘til we’re sore

i am patience.
a will to breathe,
to seize… the calm,
free of calamity,
full of ease,
prolonged.
i am patience,
living to please,
to tease… glory,
free from envy,
hoping she sees
my story.
i am patience,
a filling tree,
to flee… the earth,
free of full roots,
looking to be
since birth.
i am patience.
